Internetworking Atlantic (IAI) announced today that it has reached an agreement to acquire one of its competitors, AirFire Telephone and Data. AirFire provides a variety of communication technology services similar to those offered by IAI – including ISP and data centre services.

“The decision to acquire AirFire made perfect sense.” says Bruce MacDougall, IAI President. “With the leverage provided by our existing fibre-optic infrastructure, the combined forces of the two firms will be a significant competitive force in the business telecom and IT marketplace.”

AirFire’s Chairman John Lindsay agrees. “Our merger into IAI is a win for our customers, our staff, and the whole Atlantic IT marketplace. IAI has proven itself to be a significant presence in today’s environment. It’s organized, competitive, and delivers excellent services. We will be stronger together,” says Lindsay.

IAI specializes in the provision of high-bandwidth fibre-optic telecommunications services throughout Atlantic Canada and owns and operates over 600 kilometers of optical infrastructure. With the addition of AirFire, MacDougall says that IAI will expand its core offerings to include new services including VOIP.

“We’re always looking for ways to enhance our services,” adds MacDougall. “This decision allows us to optimize our existing infrastructure and increase our ability to provide customers with leading edge innovations in communication technology.
